They Don’t Need Valentine’s Day

He doesn’t love her with poetry. He doesn’t love her with flowers.

He doesn’t love her with Hallmark cards or trips to the Eiffel Tower.

He doesn’t love her with empty words only meant to beguile.

He doesn’t love her with sparkly rings that fade after awhile.

Still she knows. He loves her. With everything he is. He loves her.

Everything thing he has he gives her. So they don’t need Valentine’s Day.

His love is deep.  His love is strong.  He loves her softly all yearlong.

He loves her fear she’s not enough. He loves her fragile. He loves her tough.

Love can’t be bought on a shelf when it’s given away for free.

Not just on Valentine’s Day, he loves her endlessly.

And she knows. He loves her. With everything he has. He loves her.

Everything he has he gives her. So they don’t need Valentine’s Day.

My sister Aondrea Maynard, an artist living in San Francisco, has an eye for hearts.  She generously shared part of her collection of nature’s hearts that she discovered.  Her artwork can be viewed at http://www.aondreamaynard.com
